Location, Location, Location
We’re lucky to call the Seattle area our home. The timing of our ceremony not only aligns to the anniversary of our first meeting, but is probably the best time of year to visit the Pacific Northwest.
The area is known for being rainy, but our summers are amazing. From July through early October we have a dry, Mediterranean climate, with little rain and warm, sunny days. (Shh… don’t tell anyone!)
The restaurant
The ceremony and dinner will take place at the fabled Canlis. One of the most awarded restaurants in the city, it offers view of the hills of Seattle, Lake Union, and the mountains.
We will have a private space above the main dining room for the evening. There is a dress code, so please visit their site and pack accordingly.
The city
Seattle is the regional center of the area and offers much to take in: The tastes of Pike Place Market, the view from the Space Needle, and many diverse neighborhoods each with a different personality.
The Pacific Northwest
Western Washington is surrounded by mountains and made lush by coniferous forests at the waters’ edge. Whether you’re taking a day trip to the islands via ferry, driving the picturesque coast, or sampling local food and beverage, there’s always something to explore.

Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn
Since we’re planning a very small event with guests that run the gamut of those that have visited Seattle many times to those making their first trip, we have not secured rooms for our guests. Below are some options of places we’ve stayed and some that we’ve always wanted to.
-
Approximately 15 miles from Canlis, but near where we call home, this McMenamin’s location is a school which has been converted into a hotel. Their grounds includes a bar with games, a handful of restaurants, and even a small movie theater.

The Warwick is situated in the Belltown neighborhood and near to Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the Amazon Spheres. This hotel is only 2 miles from Canlis.

Nestled in the heart of a State park on the north shore of Lake Washington, this hotel is a converted seminary and has its own on-property restaurant, bar, and spa. The Lodge is about 15 miles from Canlis.

If you’re gonna spurge, splurge it real good!
In the middle of downtown just steps away from Pike Place Market and the Seattle Art Museum, the Four Seasons is one of the most luxurious hotels in the city. This hotel is about 4 miles from Canlis.

Planes, trains and automobiles
Getting around Seattle is relatively easy, though our public transit is not as extensive as New York, Chicago, or San Francisco.
-
SeaTac (SEA) is our main, international airport South of the city proper. It is served by flights on all major carriers, the usual car rental services, and a connection to downtown on the Link light rail system.
Learn more >We also have a new airport to the north of the city at Paine Field (PAE) in Everett. This is only serviced by Alaska Airlines from limited cities and offers a private-jet experience in the terminal, but is limited in transportation options if you want to rent a car or use public transit.

Lyft, Uber, and traditional taxis operate throughout area. Public transit consisting of Link light rail and buses are more concentrated to the city. There are a few urban car rental offices if you’re not picking up a car at the airport.
